ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

The Springdale City Council approved a contract to provide sewer service
to Tontitown for the next seven years. Springdale Water Utilities will
provide service of up to 400 gallons per minute, or 2 percent of its
total capacity, once an expansion project of the city’s wastewater
treatment plant is completed. Tontitown will pay for the installation of
pipes to send the sewage to Springdale. Tontitown has no sewage
treatment facilities, and the contract will allow the city’s long
established restaurants along U.S. 412 to stay in business, said Chris
Weiser, chairman of the Springdale Water and Sewer Commission.
Weiser, who is a board member with the Northwest Arkansas Conservation
Authority, said that body is moving ahead with plans to open a large
regional sewer treatment plant that should be accessible to Tontitown by
the time the contract ends. "I do believe NACA will happen," Weiser
said. "It’s the only reasonable solution for this region for wastewater
disposal."
