The Annual Membership Meeting of Save the Illinois River (STIR) is scheduled Saturday, October 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Sequoyah Outing Club near Tahlequah. Members will elect officers and directors and present awards at the Ed Edmondson Awards Banquet.
STIR members may nominate officers and directors no later than October 19 by mail or email.
Current officers and directors are President, Denise Deason-Toyne; Vice President, Barb Daily; Secretary-Treasurer, Ed Brocksmith; and Directors, Stephen Alyea, Ed Fite, Nancy Garber, Dr. Christine Hallman, Maxwell McCullough, Paul Rowsey, Dr. Gary VanDenbos, and Dr. Elizabeth Waring.
The presentation of the Francie Fite Water Warrior Award and Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Hall of Fame induction are scheduled.
STIR was founded in 1984 in response to a threat to the Illinois River watershed which resulted in a lawsuit which went to the United States Supreme Court. It is the only Oklahoma conservation organization exclusively chartered to protect the Illinois River, its tributaries, its aquifers, and Lake Tenkiller.
