[Archived] Westville improving sewer treatment

| Environment | January 04, 2014

Oklahoma DEQ has received notification that the town of Westville is set to open bids for the construction of a new wastewater tretment plant, with the capability to remove phosphorous from the discharge, at 2:00 PM on July 28th, 2005

Westville is the last Oklahoma community which discharges treated wastewater into the Illinois river basin which has not received additional treatment to furthur reduce the phosphorous level.

After the completion of construction of the new Westville wastewater trreatment facility, the contribution of phosphorous from point source dischargers in Oklahoma will be at the reduced level as required by communities' NPDES permits.

Five Arkansas communities which discharge into the Illinois River basin either already provide additional treatment, or are committed to add additional treatment capability to reduce the phosphorous concentration in their wastewater effluent to 1 ppm or less.
